CL-Windcon supports the Global Wind Day

Next June 15th the Global Wind Day will be celebrated, an annually event about the success of wind energy that will be coordinated by the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC), WindEurope and different national associations

WindEurope is the voice of the wind industry, actively promoting wind power in Europe and around the world. On the other hand, Global Wind Energy Council is a member-based organisation that represents the entire wind energy sector.

Every year on June 15th the Global Wind Day is organized. A worldwide event to celebrate the success of wind energy and to discover the wind, its power and the possibilities it holds to change our world. The main objective of the event is to introduce into the wind energy sector the general public through several activities. During the same day, a lot of events will be held all over the world and you will have the opportunity to visit wind farms, meet experts, attend and find out everything you are interested about wind energy.

Global Wind Day is an important chance for citizens all over the world to show their support for wind power like the leading technology driving the clean energy revolution. Besides is an opportunity for the companies to showcase their technologies and contributions on local economic development and job creation.

Additionally, as a part of the day, the coordinators have launched a global photo competition, named: “Wind Vision 2018”. The judges will have the key criteria for the following elements: Content, creativity, composition, techniques and the compelling story behind the picture. The three categories included in the competition are: Local Impact, boosting economies and visionary wind. The deadline for submissions is the 20th of May, don’t miss the chance. Please make sure you have read the terms and conditions before submitting any photos.

We would like to inform you that if you are hosting a Global Wind Day event, you can get the visibility, by listing it on the official Global Wind Day event listing. Do it in here.

CL-Windcon is a project focused on a new way of approaching the design and operation of a wind farm, based on the wind farm closed loop control paradigm. CENER is the project coordinator and besides is a member of WindEurope, for that reason it’s promoting also this event because CL-Windcon project is fully aligned with the objectives of the Energy Transition and policies to face the climate change challenge driven by the European Union.

Analysis of Operating Wind Farms 2018

WindEurope’s 4th edition of this Technology Workshop will be held at Vilnius, Lithuania next 15th-16th May 2018. In order to achieve their desired production and revenue goals, wind farm operators must understand and manage the performance analysis of wind farms. The programme will address new insights and improved operations technology which are needed to increase efficiency and profits, essential for wind energy companies that have recently experienced swinging national energy policies.

CL-Windcon at the 4th Workshop on Systems Engineering for Wind Energy, to be held this week (13th-15th September, 2017) in Roskilde, Denmark.

The workshop deals with integrated approaches to wind turbine and plant design, with a focus this year on exposing interactions in the system and exploring how different wind energy stakeholders can address them in new, integrated and innovative ways.

On day two of the workshop, CL-Windcon’s coordinator Mikel Iribas (CENER) will participate in the panel session and interactive discussion on “Creating Successful Collaborative Wind Energy System Research”. He will share first-hand the experience in a large-scale collaborative research effort such as CL-Windcon, where systems engineering/MDAO perspective is fundamental.

IEA Wind Task 11 – TEM #88 (6th – 8th September, 2017 – Scotland)

CL-Windcon will be present at the next Topical Expert Meeting (TEM#88) organized by the IEA Wind Task 11 on “Three-way verification and validation between data, high-fidelity models and engineering models”, to be held in Scotland on 6th-8th September, 2017.

In the meeting, experts will share verification and validation (V&V) experience and discuss pathways for establishing future IEA Wind tasks in these areas. Three main topics will be covered: atmospheric flow and wake and array effect modelling; aero-elastic modelling of modern, large rotors; and hydrodynamic fluid-structure modelling of offshore wind support structures.

CENER will present CL-Windcon project and share the challenges that aerodynamic wind farm control opens in the V&V community, such as the integration of multi-fidelity models with different scales for better understanding of flow field and turbines interaction.
